What will happen when two bass players and ambient producers from opposite sides of the globe work together on music?
Probably something like this new ambient instrumental piece: "Leaving Space". Composed and recorded by Crows Labyrinth and Willebrant: the artistic monikers of Theo Tol (the Netherlands) and Karl Willebrant (Australia).
The music starts off as a simple drone, but fairly quickly develops into an ambient piece, then gradually changes into ambient post-rock towards its climax. The track features bass guitar, piccolo bass and additional sampled sound design.
About Willebrant:
Willebrant is the ambient field drone project of Naarm/Melbourne bassist and producer Karl Willebrant. Willebrant creates immersive textures and emotive expanses that allow the listener to conceive a visual experience through the mind's eye, traversing soundscapes and drones utilizing bass guitars, found instruments, synths, and field recordings.
About Crows Labyrinth:
Crows Labyrinth is an ambient project, conceived by Theo Tol from the Netherlands. The aim of the project is to create ambient cinematic soundscapes. Originally by using solely bass guitars and effects processing. Lately also by using other sound sources like synths, piano, field recordings and generative systems. The soundscapes preferably have to be created in one take, one improvisation, one flow of sound.
Crows Labyrinth is inspired by many artists. These names are a small selection: Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, Tangerine Dream, Steven Wilson (with his Bass Communion and I.E.M. projects), Tom Heasley, Loscil, Clem Leek.
This single may also be interesting for fans of Atrium Carceri, Raison d'Être, Lustmord and Biosphere.

An utterly sublime and impactful collection of songs. Beautiful, haunting, and even catchy in a way almost no one can accomplish in ambient music normally. This album is a huge step forward for an artist that has always been a safe pair of hands but has hit his stride with a theme that has resulted in a cinematic journey of splendour that deserves to be an honest to god classic. Essential Shady Ridge, and essential JJ Wittman. 10/10 eonlake
Side A of a new split with Wayne Robert Thomas is a beautiful drone piece that feels like a time-lapse video of a foggy day. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 14, 2018
